Charcoal vs firewood: which to use
Charcoal is better for meat. It heats evenly, holds a steady temperature for hours, and is easier to manage. Perfect for steaks, ribs, chicken thighs, or sausages. A good charcoal grill can feed 20 people without needing to restock every hour.
Firewood gives a smoky flavour that charcoal can’t replicate. It works particularly well for calçots (the traditional Catalan spring onion), grilled vegetables, and slow-cooked cuts like lamb shoulder or suckling pig. The main living room also has a fireplace — firewood is the obvious choice for autumn and winter evenings when the group gathers inside after dinner.
Many groups combine both: charcoal for the main barbecue, then firewood in the fireplace as the evening stretches on.
Can Micos' barbecue area
The barbecue area at Can Micos is 90 m² and fully covered. Rain, midday heat, or anything in between — you don’t have to stop cooking or move the group inside. It’s one of the most used spaces on the property, and one of the things guests remember most.
The space includes:
– A large stone barbecue grill, capable of cooking for 25 people at once
– A long wooden table with benches for up to 20 people
– A stone worktop for preparing meat
– A sink with running water for cleaning utensils
– Timed lighting for evening barbecues
– Power sockets for music or extra lighting
– A ping-pong table and foosball for the group while they wait
Tongs, spatulas, and all the barbecue tools are already here. You don’t need to bring anything.
How the service works
The most important thing: request the charcoal and firewood before you arrive. We don’t always have stock available at the house, and if you don’t let us know in advance, we may not be able to have it ready when you get here.
The easiest way is to mention it when you make your booking, or send us a WhatsApp message a few days before arrival. That way we’ll have everything prepared by the time you park the car.
If something comes up at the last minute or you want to add more during your stay, message us on WhatsApp and we’ll sort it out. But to avoid any issues, booking in advance is always the safer option.
A few tips for barbecuing here
After years of watching groups cook in this space, a few things consistently make a difference:
Start the charcoal early. It takes 30 to 45 minutes to reach the right temperature. Don’t wait until the meat is already marinated.
Ask Daniel for his list of local butchers. The best pork, beef, and lamb from La Selva comes from small local butchers, not the motorway supermarket. He knows exactly where to send you.
For large groups, divide the work: one person at the grill, one managing sides in the kitchen, one setting the table. With 20 people waiting, a single cook gets overwhelmed fast.
The covered area works perfectly for evening barbecues. Many groups light the grill at 9pm and don’t sit down to eat until midnight — nobody complains.
